Eco-Explorers

Our Motto: Explore, Conserve, Discover

Our Mission: The Eco-Explorers mission is to help children and parents connect with nature through exploration, teach conservation and how we impact the Earth, and to provide opportunities for families to make new discoveries together.

The Eco-Explorers group will be meeting on the last Saturday of every month and it is open to all ages. Our monthly outings are always free, however, a park fee or parking fee may occasionally apply. Each month, we would like to showcase a new park or nature area found in Brevard County. Our walks will mainly be unstructured and are led at the child's pace. Our outings will average an hour, but please feel free to stay and explore longer! Our outings may include exploring hiking trails, walking on board walks, learning about conservation, bird watching, doing a simple art project before a walk, or just plain turning rocks over to look at what kind of cool bugs we can find!

"If you go with long-term significance, my pick for the top story of not only 2009 but also of the 21st Century is the pandemic of Nature Deficit Disorder, a term so aptly coined by Richard Louv in his best-selling outdoor book, Last Child in the Woods...."
— Bill Schneider, NewWest.Net
“Concerns about long-term consequences—affecting emotional well-being, physical health, learning abilities, environmental consciousness—have spawned a national movement to ‘leave no child inside.’ In recent months, it has been the focus of Capitol Hill hearings, state legislative action, grassroots projects, a U.S. Forest Service initiative to get more children into the woods and a national effort to promote a ‘green hour’ in each day.”
— Washington Post, June 2007
“The movement to reconnect children to the natural world has arisen quickly, spontaneously, and across the usual social, political, and economic dividing lines.”
Orion magazine, March/April 2007
